A man was fatally shot Tuesday on the West Side.

About 12:48 p.m., the 25-year-old was in the 400 block of North Springfield Avenue when he was shot in the chest, Chicago police said.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 4:47 p.m., police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was identified as Lanell Fields Jr., the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

No arrests have been reported. Area Four detectives are investigating.
