A 51-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday evening in Avalon Park on the South Side.

He was identified as Matthew Harlan, of Chatham, by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

About 7:25 p.m., he was inside a vehicle in the 1600 block of East 83rd Street when he heard shots and felt a pain, Chicago police said in a statement.

He was shot in the head and rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Chicago police were conducting a homicide investigation.
