A Carpentersville man was allegedly driving on a revoked license and 25 miles over the speed limit when he struck the vehicle of a 36-year-old man from Hoffman Estates who died from injuries in the crash.

Dereck R. Kelly, 19, is charged with reckless homicide and driving on a revoked license in the May 8 crash that killed Carl Bley, the Kane County state’s attorney’s office said.

Kelly was driving at a high rate of speed between 11:30 a.m. and noon north on South Eighth Street when he approached the intersection at Storm Drive and struck the vehicle Bley was driving, prosecutors said.

Bley was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he died the next day, prosecutors said.

Kelly was taken into custody Tuesday. His bail was set at $100,000 and is due back in court July 23.
