Man killed, woman critically wounded in South Shore shooting

A man was fatally shot, and a woman was critically wounded in a shooting Monday morning in the South Shore neighborhood.

About 8:50 a.m., the two were in the vehicle in the 7400 block of South Kimbark Avenue when a white sedan approached, and three people inside exited and opened fire, Chicago police said.

The man, Emil L. Riley Jr., 30, was shot and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Also shot, the woman, 31, was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was in critical condition, officials said.

No one was in custody.
