A teen was fatally shot early Tuesday in Auburn Gresham on the city’s South Side.

Antoine Smith Jr., 17, was on a sidewalk about 3:30 a.m. when a male assailant walked up to him and shot him in the torso in the 7800 block of South Ashland Avenue, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he died, police said.

No one was in custody and Area Two detectives are investigating.
