CHICAGO — An aunt of a convicted murderer caught in Chicago after escaping jail is being held on $50,000 bail on accusations that she lied to police looking for her nephew.
Authorities say Kamron Taylor escaped from a detention center in Kankakee last week by beating and choking a guard into unconsciousness and taking his uniform, keys and SUV. He was caught Friday.
A prosecutor said in Kankakee County court Monday that Taylor’s aunt Tonya Grant told pursuing police that she hadn’t had contact with Taylor and wasn’t aware if anyone else had. But the prosecutor said Grant knew Taylor called her daughter.
Grant’s attorney had asked she be released on her own recognizance, saying she wasn’t a flight risk.
