(ELGIN) A burglar was arrested after jumping out of a northwest suburban home’s window and leading police on a short foot chase Monday afternoon.
Someone reported a possible burglary at a vacant home in the 600 block of Cooper Avenue in Elgin about 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to a statement from Elgin police.
Officers saw a man inside who had cut the copper piping and was removing it from the home, police said. He jumped out of a first-floor window and led officers on a short chase before being arrested without incident.
Jonathan S. Chaney, 25, is charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor counts of resisting a peace officer and criminal damage to property, police said.
Chaney, of the 1900 block of Canal Street in Blue Island, appeared in court Tuesday morning and was ordered held on a $10,000 bond.
