A 19-year-old south suburban man fatally shot himself in his vehicle after a police chase in central Illinois on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Officers observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen in an armed carjacking in DeKalb headed westbound on Route 38 near Rochelle, and pursued the vehicle, according to a statement from Illinois State Police.
The vehicle came to a stop in a field near I-39 after officers used a “pursuit termination device,” police said.
Malik Henry then shot himself inside his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:07 p.m., according to police and the Ogle County coroner’s office. Henry lived in south suburban Hazel Crest.
The coroner’s office did not release further information Friday pending toxicological tests.
