A 25-year-old man was killed and another man was wounded in a shooting Monday evening in northwest Indiana.
Officers responded to shots fired at 5:36 p.m. in the 4100 block of Tod Avenue in East Chicago, according to East Chicago police.
They were met by the brother of 25-year-old Thomas Michael Richardson, who was lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
Richardson, an East Chicago resident, was taken to Methodist Hospital Northlake in Gary, where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m., according to police and the Lake County coroner’s office.
A second victim, a 27-year-old East Chicago man, was shot in the leg and was taken to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment, police said.
“At this time, East Chicago Police cannot confirm the motive for the shooting with no evidence that indicates it was gang-related,” a statement from police said. “The investigation will continue as leads are developed.”
