State child welfare officials are investigating allegations of abuse and neglect in the Friday night death of a 2-year-old girl from northwest suburban Arlington Heights.
On Thursday evening, emergency crews responded to a call of a sick child at a home in the 2100 block of South Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights Police Cmdr. Nathan Hayes said.
Hailey Yale was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where the toddler died at 11:35 p.m. Friday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy was inconclusive pending further studies.
The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of neglect against Hailey’s mother and allegations of abuse against the mother’s boyfriend, according to DCFS spokeswoman Veronica Resa.
A 2013 neglect allegation against the mother was deemed “unfounded,” and the agency has not had prior contact with the boyfriend, Resa said. A sibling in the household was placed with a relative under a DCFS-supervised safety plan.
Police declined to release further details about the ongoing investigation.
