State child welfare officials are investigating allegations of neglect against the mother of a West Side infant who died Saturday evening.
Kemyah Weekly, a 1-month-old girl from the 200 block of South Central, died at 6:14 p.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The state’s Department of Children and Family Services has opened a neglect investigation, according to agency spokeswoman Veronica Resa.
DCFS has not had contact with the family before, but a sibling of Kemyah has been placed with a relative under a supervised safety plan, she said.
An autopsy Monday did not rule on the cause or manner of the baby’s death, with results pending further testing, the medical examiner’s office said.
Chicago Police could not immediately provide additional details.
