A north suburban man is behind bars Friday after evidence of child pornography was found during a search of his home, according to prosecutors.
Brian Schmitz, 34, of Libertyville, was charged with three counts of possessing child pornography after being arrested as part of “a Lake County initiative to apprehend offenders who download and trade child pornography online,” according to the Lake County state’s attorney’s office.
State’s attorney’s office investigators, Libertyville police and Round Lake Beach police searched his home and arrested Schmitz Thursday, a statement from prosecutors said.
He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted, prosecutors said. He was being held in the Lake County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
“My office will continue to pursue the individuals in Lake County who are facilitating the exploitation of children,” state’s attorney Mike Nerheim said.
