A man has been charged with trying to steal a 62-year-old woman’s purse Tuesday afternoon in a grocery store parking lot in southwest suburban Orland Park.
Officers were called at 4:42 p.m. to the Aldi at 13145 S. LaGrange Road, where they found the woman on the ground in the parking lot, according to a statement from Orland Park police.
The woman had just arrived to shop at the store and was getting items out of the trunk when 32-year-old Keith M. Siedlinski grabbed her purse, which was slung over her shoulder, police said. He pulled on the purse, dragging the woman to the ground through the parking lot before ultimately letting go and running away.
The woman was examined by paramedics for soreness and abrasions but was not taken to a hospital, according to police.
Siedlinski ran off northbound across 131st Street and into a wooded area, police said. A Cook County sheriff’s officer spotted him hiding behind some trees northeast of a nearby Walgreens store and took him into custody at 4:53 p.m. after a brief foot chase.
Siedlinski, who lives in the 14000 block of South 85th Avenue in Orland Park, was identified by witnesses at the scene and charged with a felony count of attempted robbery, police said.
He was ordered held on a $100,000 bond Wednesday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. His next court date is scheduled for April 7.
