$100K bond for man charged with Elgin shooting

Juan A. Lara | Elgin police

Bond was set at $100,000 Saturday for a man charged with shooting another man during a fight in northwest suburban Elgin last month.

Juan A. Lara, 22, was charged with felony battery with a firearm for the March 20 attack in the 700 block of Wing Street, according to Elgin police.

Lara, of South Elgin, got into an argument about 6:45 a.m. with another 22-year-old man before pulling out a handgun and opening fire, police allege.

The victim was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin with a life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

Several witnesses identified Lara, who was arrested Friday in Elgin, police said.

A judge ordered Lara held on a $100,000 bond Saturday, according to the Kane County sheriff’s office.
