A man who police say tried to rob a north suburban CVS pharmacy of narcotics last week, only to run out when polcie were called, is behind bars on Wednesday.
Just before 3:30 p.m. April 20, the suspect went to the pharmacy desk at the CVS in Plaza Del Lago at 1515 Sheridan Road in Wilmette, according to Wilmette police.
He gave the pharmacist a note “demanding prescription painkillers” and “implied possession of a firearm,” a statement from police said.
But when the pharmacist called police, the offender fled the area without any pills, police said. He was last seen running away from the store.
Detectives quickly developed a possible suspect, and after further investigation, Barry R. Menary was arrested at 8:34 a.m. Wednesday at his home in the 100 block of 3rd Street in Wilmette, police said. After being interviewed by detectives, he was charged with attempted aggravated robbery.
Menary appeared in bond court Wednesday in Skokie and was released on a $20,000 recognizance bond. His next court appearance is set for May 7.
