No one was injured in a barricade situation when a man locked himself inside his home and threatened to harm himself Monday morning in northwest suburban Elgin.
The 54-year-old called police a few minutes after 4 a.m. and said he wanted to harm himself, and had several handguns and a female in the home in the 500 block of East Chicago Street, according to a statement from Elgin police.
The Tactical Response Team tried to negotiate with the man and evacuated adjacent homes, police said.
About 7:15 a.m., officers made contact with the man and he was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital for medical care, police said.
An investigation found that no one else and no handguns were inside the home, police said. He will not face any charges.
East Chicago Street was closed for about three hours.
