Man shot while trying to break into South Shore home charged

A man who was shot while trying to break into a home early Thursday in the South Shore neighborhood has been charged with attempted burglary.

James Rainey, 36, was charged Friday with one felony count of attempted residential burglary, according to Chicago Police.

Rainey was trying to break into a home in the 7800 block of South South Shore Drive about 4 a.m. Thursday when a 54-year-old man who lives in the home shot him in the arm, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Rainey, of the 8000 block of South Kingston, was ordered held without bond, and is next scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
