Two people were found dead inside a burning minivan early Friday in the South Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Fire crews discovered the bodies after extinguishing the vehicle fire at 12:24 a.m. in the 3100 block of South Harding, police said. Their ages and genders remained unknown Friday morning.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed that two people were found dead in the burning vehicle but said the cause and manner of their deaths were pending Friday morning.
“The condition of the remains also makes it impossible to immediately confirm the identities of the two individuals,” office spokesman Frank Shuftan said in a statement.
Area Central detectives and the CPD Bomb and Arson Unit are conducting a death investigation.
