Police are cautioning the West Ridge neighborhood on the North Side after a child luring attempt was reported near a park last week.
On April 20 about 6:35 p.m., two children were walking in the 6700 block of North Whipple to retrieve a dodgeball that had become stuck between two fences near Chippewa Park, according to an alert issued by police.
A woman in a nearby black SUV rolled down her window and and said “Hi kids, come over here, I have some candy,” police said. The two children quickly walked away. After removing the ball from between the fences, the two noticed the SUV still parked with the woman inside and ran to tell their parents.
The woman was described as white, between 20 and 30 years old, police said. She wore a scarf that covered her head. The driver of the SUV was a male between 17 and 20 years old. He wore a baseball cap with a straight brim and a t-shirt.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call detectives at (312) 744-8200.
