Police search for man charged with shooting security guard in Gary

Gary police are searching for a 21-year-old man charged with shooting a security guard during an attempted robbery last week in northwest Indiana.

Stephen Spivey of Gary has been charged with attempted armed robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, attempted armed robbery resulting in bodily injury, attempted armed robbery, battery with a deadly weapon, and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, according to a statement from Gary police.

The charges stem from a Jan. 22 incident at the ABC Phone Store in the 4200 block of Broadway, during which a security guard was shot in the chest and seriously wounded, police said.

As of Friday afternoon, Spivey remains at-large, police said. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Det. Sgt. William Fazekas at (219) 881-1210 or the Crime Tip Line at 866-CRIME-GP.
