A student who brought a broken BB gun to Hinsdale South High School in west suburban Darien on Wednesday is expected to face criminal charges.
A concerned student came forward to report that another student had brought a weapon to school, according to a statement from Hinsdale Township High School District 86.
The school’s administration contacted the school resource officer, who located the student within moments.
A broken BB gun was found among the student’s belongings and the situation was resolved “without incident,” according to the statement.
Darien police took the student into custody and charges are expected to be filed.
“From the student who came forward to the administrative team who responded quickly and decisively, each remained calm and acted swiftly to ensure the safety of our school,” the statement read.
