A 17-year-old boy has been charged with accidentally shooting a 14-year-old girl Tuesday afternoon in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
The girl was sitting at a kitchen table inside a home in the 7100 block of South Ingleside at 3:25 p.m., according to Chicago Police. The boy was showing her a handgun when it went off and she was struck in the chest and neck.
The girl was taken to the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, police said.
The boy ran away after the shooting, but later turned himself in to authorities, police said. He has been charged with a felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm and is expected to appear in Juvenile Court Thursday.
