A northwest suburban boy will be charged as an adult with sexually assaulting a preteen family member last week at a home in Woodstock.
Woodstock police were called about 7:30 p.m. March 25 to a home in the southeast section of the city to a report of a disturbance, a statement from police said.
Witnesses told police that a sexual assault had taken place and the offender, a 17-year-old boy, had run out of the house. The victim of the assault was a family member who was under the age of 9.
The boy was found early on the morning of March 26, interviewed and charged as a juvenile with one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of misdemeanor battery, police said. He was ordered held at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center in St. Charles.
On Wednesday, the McHenry County state’s attorney’s office announced the juvenile would be charged as an adult with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, police said.
He remains in custody at the Kane County juvenile center on a $100,000 bond.
Police did not disclose the boy’s name or the address of the incident because of his age.
