Cubs trade: Team takes another flier, acquire RHP Travis Lakins

Lakins, 25, was designated for assignment last week by the Red Sox.

The Cubs acquired pitcher Travis Lakins from the Red Sox for cash or a player to be named later.

As the Cubs wait out a more significant trade market that may not develop before the summer trade period, they continue to make low-level moves for pitching depth.

On Tuesday that meant acquiring right-hander Travis Lakins, 25, from the Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash.

Lakins debuted last season, making three starts, 13 relief appearances and producing a 3.86 ERA.

Lakins was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week.
