Major League Baseball postponed Thursday’s Cubs-Marlins playoff game because of impending rain.
Game 2, which was to feature Yu Darvish against the Marlins’ Sixto Sanchez, tentatively will be played at 1 p.m Friday. If Cubs-Marlins is the only playoff series yet to be decided, the game will be played at 6 p.m.
Game 3, if necessary, would be played Saturday with time to be determined.
Sanchez, who will make his postseason debut, was 3-2 with a 3.46 earned-run average in seven starts this season.
The Marlins hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three wild card series after Wednesday’s 5-1 victory at Wrigley Field. Ian Happ’s solo home run in the fifth inning accounted for the Cubs’ only run in Wednesday’s loss. Kyle Hendricks and Jeremy Jeffress gave up three-run and two-run homers, respectively, in the seventh inning.
Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara kept the Cubs’ bats quiet for 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday, allowing one run and three hits. He kept the offense off-balance with fastballs, which accounted for 77% of his pitches.
