Christmas Eve hymn

Silent Night Chicago is a citywide event with a goal of spreading hope and goodwill on Christmas Eve. At 9:09 p.m. on Dec. 24, light a candle or shine your phone from your front porch, street corner, balcony or public space and join fellow Chicagoans in singing “Silent Night.” The organizers want to create a unifying moment for the entire city in which “we all lay aside our differences, rediscover our humanity and let peace on Earth and goodwill towards all reign.” Visit silentnightchicago.com.

City Winery’s eighth annual comedy show “Christmas Eve for the Jews” returns with a livestream at 7 p.m. Dec. 24. Waltz in the New Year

Maestro Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will kick off the 2020-2021 season with a free concert on Sept. 17 in Millennium Park.

Chicago Symphony Orchestra music director Riccardo Muti leads the Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Day Concert from the Musikverein concert hall in Vienna. Filmed without an audience due to pandemic restrictions, the concert features the Maestro conducting the orchestra in a performance of festive Strauss family waltzes.
