In celebration of Black History Month, Oscar winning filmmaker and Chicago native Matthew A. Cherry will be on hand for a screening of his best animated short film “Hair Love” followed by a discussion, on Feb. 20 at Macy’s on State. Cherry received his Academy Award on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
The event is a celebration of “the diversity of black hair and beauty” according to Monday’s announcement, followed by a conversation hosted by Stadium Sports Network’s Amina Smith with Cherry, dermatologist Dr. Caroline Robinson and Ebony Jamison of Brownskinbeautiful.
Doors open for the event at 5:30 p.m. at the 7th floor Narcissus Room of the store at 111 N. State. A reception featuring live entertainment follows the screening/talk.
Cherry’s film and TV credits also include directing music videos, the short film “This Time,” the TV limited series “The Red Line,” and most recently episodes of “Whiskey Cavalier” and “Black-ish. He also was an executive producer on Spike Lee’s feature film “BlackKklansman.”
