Chicago actress Kelly O’Sullivan wins Princess Grace Award

Chicago actress Kelly O’Sullivan has been honored with a Princess Grace Foundation Award Theater Fellowship — the 2014 Robert and Gloria Hausman Theater Award.

O’Sullivan’s stage credits include “The Internationalist” “Honest,” “Good Boys and True,” “The Crucible,” and “100 Saints You Should Know” (at Steppenwolf Theatre), and “Columbinus” and “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs” (at American Theatre Company, where she is an ensemble member, and where two previous actors — Jaime Castañeda (2008), and Sadieh Rifai (2011) — also were awardees).

A graduate of Northwestern University and The School at Steppenwolf, O’Sullivan also has appeared in “The Seagull” (Goodman Theatre); “Hesperia” (Writers Theatre); “The Lieutenant of Inishmore” (Northlight Theatre); “Jon” and “Sketchbook 7” (Collaboraction); “The Glory of Living” (Profiles Theatre), and “Mr. Marmalade” (for which she received a Joseph Jefferson nomination for principal actress in a play (at Dog & Pony Theatre). She has worked in several theaters beyond Chicago, as well as in film and television.

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA (PGF-USA) is awarding nearly $1 million to artists in theater, dance performance, choreography and film this year. The Awards continue the legacy of Princess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco, who helped emerging artists pursue their artistic goals during her lifetime. This year’s Princess Grace Awards winners and Statue Awards winners will be presented their Awards on Oct. 8 in Los Angeles at the 32nd annual Princess Grace Awards Gala which the Prince and Princess of Monaco are expected to attend.

Past winners of the Awards for theater, dance and film who distinguish themselves in their artistic disciplines since receiving their initial Princess Grace Awards are eligible to win the Foundation’s Princess Grace Statue Award. This year, David Hallberg, principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre and the first American to join the Bolshoi Ballet as a principal dancer, along with actor Oscar Isaac, who was nominated for a Golden Globe as the star of “Inside Llewyn Davis,” and will be featured in the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VII,” will be receiving this honor.

Other Chicago area winners include: Laurel Cohen/ Northwestern University (Undergraduate Film Scholarship, Cary Grant Film Award), with an Honoraria to Meredith Lackey/ University of Illinois, Chicago (also for film work).

Among the Special Project, Works in Progress Residencies at the Baryshnikov Arts Center and the Choreography Mentorship Co-Commission (CMCC) Awards are grants available to past Princess Grace Awards winners and Honoraria recipients for uniquely significant projects that advance their artistic development.

Robyn Mineko Williams, a former Hubbard Street Dance Chicago dancer-turned-choreographer received a Works in Progress Residency.
