Chicago librarians name Top 10 books of 2014

The Chicago Public Library on Wednesday published its Best of the Best list of the best books published in 2014.

Every year, a team of its librarians evaluates that year’s new books and selects the best books for Chicagoans, according to the Chicago Public Library website.

In years past, that’s included titles for kids and teenagers. This year, for the first time, the library also selected its Top 10 Books for Adults.

Here’s the Top 10 list:

1. All the Light We Cannot See: A Novel by Anthony Doerr
2. Bad Feminist: Essays by Roxane Gay
3. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
4. A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James
5. Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? by Roz Chast
6. Euphoria: A Novel by Lily King
7. On Immunity: An Inoculation by Eula Biss
8. Redeployment by Phil Klay
9. The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History by Elizabeth Kolber
10. Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
