Chance the Rapper, the Chicagoan behind some of the freshest sounds in hip-hop, got to play it old school on the last “Saturday Night Live” of 2016.

As the musical guest on Saturday’s episode, the current Grammy nominee performed two songs from his repertoire, as custom dictates, but also joined in on a pair of comedy sketches.

His biggest part was rapping in a music video in the vein of the 1987 Run-DMC holiday classic “Christmas in Hollis.” In adidas track suit, black fedora and fat gold chain, Chance traded lines with Kenan Thompson about this Christmas being the last of the Obama presidency. In one section, Chance revealed he’s been hoarding in preparation for the Trump era:

I got batteries, canned food, everything I need

There’ll probably never be another Christmas Eve

Binge drinking eggnog like I don’t care

I’ma hurt myself before we lose Obamacare.

Leslie Jones chimed in for a verse about the joys of Joe Biden, host Casey Affleck played a breakdancing Jesus and even one of the original “Hollis” writer-performers, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, showed up for a line.

Later, in a scene about bad comedians staging a jokey re-enactment of Christ’s birth, Chance popped up as the actor playing all three wise men with the help of two lifesize puppets. The routine had him singing and dancing to the tune of MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This.”

Affleck was making his “SNL” debut, but the opening scene featured two actors with loads of hosting experience: Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump and John Goodman as Secretary of State appointee Rex Tillerson, showing his love for a shirtless Vladimir Putin (Beck Bennett). Former cast member and host Fred Armisen also played some roles.
