His own sitcom “Sean Saves the World” didn’t pan out, but Sean Hayes will be back on series television this fall as a regular for the sophomore season of the CBS comedy “The Millers.”
The Glen Ellyn native, who won an Emmy for his role as Jack McFarland in “Will & Grace,” will play Kip Withers, Carol Miller’s (Margo Martindale) new best friend and a “source of friction” for Carol’s son, Nathan (Will Arnett). Hayes will be introduced in the second season premiere, slated later in the fall season on Oct. 30.
“The thought of he and Margo Martindale as BFFs makes me smile every time I think about it,” said Greg Garcia, series creator and executive producer in a statement to the press.
Hayes, a Glenbard West grad who studied piano at Illinois State University (he had a job tickling the ivories at Pheasant Run theater in St. Charles), starred in and executive produced his eponymous comedy “Sean Saves the World” last fall. It was part of NBC’s doomed Thursday night comedy line-up that included “The Michael J. Fox Show” and “Welcome to the Family.” He also had parts in “Smash” and “Up All Night.”
