Former Chicagoan Lester Holt — a NBC mainstay in New York for years — continues to hold his own filling in for Brian Williams on “NBC Nightly News.” While it had looked like ABC might bump Holt and NBC out of the No. 1 slot long held by Williams — now on that enforced six-month hiatus — the peacock network’s signature evening newscast not only remained first last week, but increased its viewership.
Compared to the prior week, the NBC broadcast widened its lead over ABC in both total viewers (from an 11,000 viewer edge to 561,000) and 18-49 viewers (from 43,000 to 61,000).
Of course, part of all this is the fact NBC is re-airing the early evening broadcast in the overnight hours in a number of major markets — which does add to the numbers.
