There’s a lot of anticipation over the upcoming Lifetime cable film about the late Whitney Houston. But when it comes out, audiences won’t hear the great diva’s incredible voice singing her songs. Nor will it be the voice of Yaya DaCosta, the former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant who has been cast to portray Houston in the film, directed by Angela Bassett.
Instead, it will be R&B singer Deborah Cox who will be providing the vocal tracks for the film.
The absence of Houston’s voice — and the permission required to use it — is tied to the fact Whitney’s family is not involved in the Lifetime production in any way.
