First we learned Jackie Cruz’s role on “Orange Is the New Black” was being expanded to a series regular — now comes word Lea DeLaria’s character will be expanded to regular status when the third season of “OITNB” premieres June 12 on Netflix.
Clearly the writers and producers of the hit prison show feel Carrie “Big Boo” Black warrants more showcasing for the fans of the award-winning series.
DeLaria has recurred in the role since the launch of season one. “Orange Is the New Black” already has been renewed for a fourth season as well.
Along with her acting career, DeLaria is also a talented jazz artist — set to release her sixth album this summer. It will be a collection of jazz covers of David Bowie hits, titled “House of David: DeLaria + Bowie = Jazz.”
