As we get closer to the fall launch of “The View,” it’s not surprising there’s lots of rumors flying about who will be joining Whoopi Goldberg and the returning Rosie O’Donnell on the long-running daily chatfest on ABC.
Speaking of Goldberg, it was somewhat intriguing that she seemed to ignore Savannah Guthrie’s question — asking her thoughts about O’Donnell’s return to “The View” — during an interview with Goldberg on “Today” Monday morning, promoting her role in the upcoming “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” flick.
Goldberg did joke, “When I come back in September, it could be six turtles sitting there,” and obvious plug for the new movie.
†One name that is being touted by a number of my “View” sources is columnist and frequent cable talk contributor S.E. Cupp — seen by show insiders as a very palatable conservative voice that O’Donnell could spar with — but without it becoming uncomfortable and ugly.
Two other conservative commentators reportedly in the mix as well are Fox News’ Juliet Huddy and MSNBC’s Abby Huntsman, the daughter of 2012 GOP presidential candidate Jon Huntsman.
Meghan McCain, herself the daughter of Sen. John McCain and the Republican’s 2008 standard bearer, has said she is NOT under consideration for “The View” job.
†Besides a conservative co-host, the show is also actively looking to add a Latina voice to the show’s panel. Two names being bandied about include Lauren Sanchez of “Good Day L.A.” on the Los Angeles Fox station, and Sunny Hostin, who is frequently seen on CNN.
Reportedly not in the mix is WGN-TV’s morning features reporter Ana Belaval, who had a tryout recently as a guest co-host.
