Lyric Opera of Chicago to hold costume sale

SHARE Lyric Opera of Chicago to hold costume sale

It’s been 10 years in the making, and it is finally here.

Lyric Opera of Chicago is hosting a one-day-only costume sale open to the public, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Civic Opera House, 20 N. Wacker. Admission is free (a suggested donation of $5 is optional).

More than 3,000 costume pieces will be for sale in the theater’s grand foyer. Items will be organized according to price, ranging from $1 to $200. (The last time the Lyric hosted such as sale was in 2004.)

Everything will be sold as is. All sales are final, so no haggling. Cash or major credit cards will be accepted. As there are no fitting rooms, dress appropriately to try on costumes over clothing.

Items from numerous opera productions will be featured, including: “Don Giovanni,” “The Mikado,” “The Voyage of Edgar Allan Poe,” “The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny,” “A Masked Ball,” “The Pirates of Penzance,” the “Ring” cycle, “The Flying Dutchman,” “I Capuleti e I Montecchi,” and “Die Fledermaus.” (Children’s costumes are not included in the sale.)

NOTE: Also on Sept. 6, you can check out “The Stars of Lyric Opera” at Millennium Park, a free concert at 7:30 pm. It will be broadcast live on 98.7WFMT and streamed live on WFMT.com.
