To those who thought it would never last — Wicker Park’s latest eatery, the kitschy Saved by The Max pop-up (1941 W. North), is proving to be a huge hit with fans of “Saved by the Bell,” and diner food and all that “Bayside” ambiance.
So much so that the TV show-themed pop-up (which officially opened its doors on June 1) will remain open through Dec. 31 (instead of its previously announced August closing date). Reservations for the extended dates of operation will be available starting at 11 a.m. June 14 at savedbythemax.com
An official statement explained: “Due to the high fan demand and ever-increasing walk in lines, Saved by The Max is happy to announce they’ve been granted permission to extend service through December 31st. Reservation tickets for dinner service will be made available for the remainder of the year and are strongly encouraged as only a limited number of walk-ins (first-come basis) are granted for dinner service each night.”

One big change: Sit-down weekend brunch service will no longer be offered; instead, the eatery will now offer a weekend Walk-In Bag Lunch service beginning at 11 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays (while supplies last). On Saturdays, the carry-out bag lunch will feature a fan photo opp, Crawfish with Baker Miller Grits, Bang Bang Pie and Halfwit Coffee. On Sunday, the bag lunch will feature the photo opp, Tasso Ham with Baker Miller Grits, Bang Bang Pie and Halfwit Coffee. Both menus are the creation of The Max’s chef, Brian Fisher. (The menu is subject to change.)
