Hands up if you think Jan. 5 is the worst Monday of the year — you know, the first one after the holidays.

The folks behind SpongeBob SquarePants are looking to put a better spin on the depressing date, declaring it “The Day of Positivity.” His emissaries will hand out coffee and treats at three Chicago locations: the State and Lake Red Line station (8–8:20 a.m.), the Brown Line stop at Merchandise Mart (8:30-8:50 a.m.) and Michigan and Grand (9-9:20 a.m.).

A companion music video, “Thank Gosh It’s Monday,” went live on Sunday and depicts the eternal optimist marking his calendar with a smiley face. “When life knocks you down and rubs dirt in your face, use the dirt to grow roses all over the place,” he sings.

Fans can participate in the celebration at DayofPositivity.com, where they’re encouraged to upload and share positive selfies and receive a “positivity” message from SpongeBob.

It’s all part of the promotional push for the latest SpongeBob movie, “Sponge Out of Water,” which arrives in theaters Feb. 6.
