Super League Gaming brings ‘Minecraft’ event to Chicago-area theaters

“Minecraft” fans listen up!

Super League Gaming is bringing its in-theater summer tour to Chicago area theaters July 27-29. A pre-cursor to the self-proclaimed “world’s first in-theater video game league for kids,” the event brings gamers together to competitively play “Minecraft” at movie theaters. Gamers play side-by-side and work collaboratively to creatively build and skillfully battle while seeing their gameplay on the theater’s big screen.

According to the league organizers: “Each Super League Gaming event is comprised of a 100-minute session that incorporates both gaming and social interaction. A unique third-person “world” view of “Minecraft” is projected onto the theater screen while gamers play in the traditional first-person view on their laptops. Gamers build and strategize with their teams, as well as compete in battles to climb the leaderboard.”

The 25-city tour runs through Aug. 26 to spread the word out about official league gameplay, which starts with consecutive 6-week sessions on September 14.

The fun starts at 4 p.m. You must be between the agest of 7 and 14 to participate. The cost for the single-session Chicago-area events is $20 per event (per child), followed by 6-week league sessions in the fall where gamers play once a week for $120 per session. Seating is limited. You must purchase tickets online at superleague.com.  NOTE: You must bring a fully-charged laptop to the theater to participate.
