George Clooney clearly had a ball as he appeared as the first guest on the debut night of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” After the new CBS late-night host thanked the actor and filmmaker for coming on the program without a movie to promote, Colbert showcased his quirky sense of humor by telling Clooney that while he had nothing commercial to boost, “We can pretend that you have a movie. Let’s say it’s some sort of action thriller.”

After explaining that the faux flick is called “Decision Strike” and stars Clooney as a “tough no-nonsense secretary general of the U.N.,” the duo tossed to pretaped clips. Clooney jokingly noted, “The whole world is on the brink of destruction, and my character is the only one who can stop it.”

Among the clips shown was an “action sequence” that spoofed Tom Cruise’s recent stunt in the new “Mission: Impossible” film — where he’s hanging from the outside of a plane as it takes off.

In the Clooney-Colbert bit, the actor is hanging from a door marked “airplane door,” but is, in fact, the door to his dressing room at “The Late Show.”
