With “The Expendables 3,” veteran action star Wesley Snipes returns to the multiplexes for the first time since his release from prison.

Actually, as it turns out, audiences will be reminded of the actor’s three-year sentence for failing to file income tax returns.

Early in the movie, a joke about tax evasion and Snipes’ time behind bars is included in the final edited version of the film.

On top of that, Snipes himself joked about his prison record at the film’s world premiere in London Monday — saying that Sylvester Stallone had him under consideration for the first “Expendables” film, but quipped that he was “just a little occupied at the time.

“They reserved a spot for me, and when the opportunity came along he reached out again, and said, ‘Come join us, we would like you to be a part of this.”

Snipes was sentenced to three years in prison in 2008, and began serving his term in December, 2010.
