Senator Don Harmon, D-Oak Park, Illinois Senate President Pro Tempore
Senator Harmon is currently serving his fifth term in the Illinois Senate. He serves in leadership as the Senate President Pro Tempore. During his tenure, Senator Harmon has championed numerous causes including early childhood education, easing the tax burden on working families, curbing gun violence, marriage equality and expanding healthcare for low-income families.
Senator Harmon serves as Chair of the Executive Committee, Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, as well as on the Assignment and Judiciary Committees. He holds both a law degree and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
Dr. Rahul Khare, CEO, Innovative Express Care
Dr. Khare is the founder of Innovative Express Care. Innovative Express Care is a primary care and urgent care center with specialized services such as mental health therapy, pain management, and medical cannabis certification and consultation. For the last 10 years, Dr. Khare was an emergency physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, as well as an Associate Professor at Northwestern University.
Dr. Steven Salzman, Medical Director, Green Care Medical
Dr. Salzman is a practicing trauma surgeon and trauma intensivist with over 20 years of experience. He has unprecedented experience treating patients with traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and complex pain syndromes. He sits on a number of philanthropic and outreach boards, including CeaseFire, where he coordinates hospital intervention throughout the Chicagoland area. In addition, Dr. Salzman is integral in faculty involvement in resident and fellow education at hospitals where he is on staff.
Dr. George Gavrilos, Chief Pharmacy Officer, Green Care Medical
Dr. Gavrilos is a practicing cardiac critical care pharmacist, specializing in mechanical circulatory support. He is adjunct faculty at schools of pharmacy in Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa, and currently serves as Director of Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency Training at the hospital where he is on staff. His particular cannabis-related research interests include the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties of cannabis and enzymatic drug-drug interactions.
Dr. Jay Joshi, MD, DABA, DABA-PM, FABA-PM, CEO/Medical Director – National Pain Centers
Dr. Joshi is a nationally recognized, double board certified Anesthesiologist and fellowship trained Interventional Spine and Pain Management physician. He is considered a National “Key Opinion Leader” in pain management and has presented to a variety of audiences all over the country. He has served as the Medical Director of Pain Management at a local Chicago land area hospital. In addition, Dr. Joshi has an extensive background, as a physician, researcher, innovator, and has even served as a medical advisor to to numerous pharmaceutical, medical device, technology, automotive, media, marketing, and incubator companies.
Ayesha Akhtar, MPH, Director of Education, Epilepsy Foundation Greater Chicago
Ayesha is the Director of Education of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago. She is also a Master Trainer in Diversity & Cross Cultural Awareness. Ayesha earned her M.P.H. from the University of Illinois-Chicago, focusing on culturally sensitive approaches to health care. She has over 10 years of experience as a health educator in a variety of settings and is passionate about educating communities with health information to individuals live empowered and informed lives. Ayesha also specializes in trainings for African-American, Hispanic American and other diverse communities looking for culturally sensitive approaches to learning about epilepsy. Ayesha is fluent in Spanish and Urdu.
Rosa Nicolosi, Patient Care Manager, The Herbal Care Center
Rosa is a health and wellness advocate who was drawn to the field of medical cannabis after experiencing unwanted side effects from various manufactured medicines. As she sought to learn more about the positive effects of cannabis, through self-study and exploration Rosa gained considerable knowledge. She now shares the benefits of medical cannabis combined with yoga, meditation and a mindful diet with patients and encourages them to take the steps necessary to better understand their personal health and wellness.
Lauren Cohn, Chicago Journalist
Lauren is a veteran TV News Anchor/Reporter & Radio Host in Chicago that worked in New York and Philadelphia before settling here. A three-time Emmy nominated journalist, Lauren has covered every beat including Politics, Business, Health, Consumer, Education and Breaking News for both local and national news outlets. More than half of Lauren’s career has been spent in the Chicago market as an Anchor/Reporter for ABC7, CBS2, and Fox32 News.
