Bears grab outside linebacker in new NFL mock draft

The top choice for the Bears continues to ebb and flow as we inch closer to the NFL draft.

We’ve seen talk of the top available nose tackle, defensive end, quarterback and, most recently, wide receiver all fall to the Chicago Bears at pick No. 7.

ESPN draft guru Todd McShay most recently pegged the Bears to take West Virginia wideout Kevin White with their first pick.

The newest mock draft to hit the internet Wednesday was from noted Sports Illustrated writer Peter King, who has the top two quarterbacks off the board first and the top two wide receivers gone before the Bears’ pick.

The Bears, he writes, will take Clemson outside linebacker Vic Beasley at No. 7.

“Bears would love White or Cooper,” King writes. “New GM Ryan Pace might trade up for one. But John Fox loves rushers, and even after spending $39 million in free agency on Pernell McPhee, Beasley is the best value for the rush-starved Bears.”

NFL Network analyst Chris Conway said last month that Beasley would be a great fit for the Bears.

“He can definitely step in and be that guy” for the Chicago Bears, Conway said. Conway also said Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio would be a good teacher for Beasley, noting what Fangio did for Aldon Smith when Smith was a rookie with the San Francisco 49ers.
