John Fox continued to add to his Bears coaching staff, reaching a deal with Ben Wilkerson to be an assistant offensive line coach on Wednesday.
Wilkerson will work under offensive line coach Dave Magazu. With Wilkerson in the mix, line coach Pat Meyer, of course, will not return. The Bears also announced that defensive quality control coach Chris Harris will not return.
Wilkerson doesn’t have NFL coaching experience. But he did play in 32 games over three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals (2006) and Atlanta Falcons (2007-08).
Wilkerson started his coaching career at LSU, where he was a graduate assistant in 2010 and an offensive administrative intern in 2011. He also played at LSU, starting 41 games at center over four seasons.
After LSU, Wilkerson was the offensive line coach at Grambling State for two seasons. In 2014, he taught physical education and was an assistant football and track coach at North Shore Senior High in Houston.
