One of the most durable players in the NFL until this year, Antrel Rolle’s season ended Monday after he played only seven games because of two different injuries.
The Bears placed the safety on injured reserve Monday because of a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee suffered on the last play of a non-contact practice Nov. 21.
When he signed a three-year, $11.25 million deal this offseason, Rolle, who turns 33 on Wednesday, had missed only one game since 2007.
“He’ll be well taken care of,” Fox said. “Long-term effects, I don’t know. Can’t predict that.”
The move clears a 53-man roster spot for tackle Tayo Fabuluje, who was suspended four games after taking an appetite suppressant to keep from late-night snacking in training camp. The rookie had a roster exemption last week.
