Danny Kanell blasted for insensitive comment about ’85 Bears

The ESPN “30 for 30″ on the 1985 Bears was as much a celebration of their greatness as it was an examination of their demise.

A good portion of the compelling narrative focused on the health problems and deaths of several former Bears.

One segment took an in-depth look at quarterback Jim McMahon’s battles with early onset dementia.

The film also touched on the struggles of safety Dave Duerson, who shot and killed himself in 2011 and was later diagnosed with CTE.

During Thursday’s premiere, ESPN talk-show host and former NFL quarterback Danny Kanell offered his thoughts about the film.

It should be noted that Kanell has been very outspoken against the anti-concussion movement, excusing it as a “war on football.”

Kanell’s insensitive and untimely Tweet was roundly criticized by fans, athletes and even co-workers:

Former White Sox pitcher Brandon McCarthy tweeted: “[Blank] me. your salary must be incredible to justify your complete descent into public buffoonery”
