Think you’re bad? Here’s your chance to prove it.
The Badass Dash lands in Rosemont on Aug. 30. Part race, part obstacle course and a whole lot of adventurous fun are promised.
Expect a minimum of 25 different obstacles. I can’t tell you which ones; the element of surprise plays a role in Badass. Well, of course!
But, you might find the Crazy Cargo Climb, Mount Wedge More or Taxing Tires, to name a few possibilities. (The names alone make you want to try it, don’t they?) Just know you’ll be jumping, balancing, climbing and pulling your body weight over and under a number of cleverly named obstacles. Be prepared to get wet. Or muddy. Or both.
There are four different divisions for the Badass Dash. Elite is for the very well trained (firefighters, police, competitive athletes); they’ll be racing against one another. The recreational division is for those merely going after a personal best.
Then there’s the K-9 companion division where, yep, you run with Fido. This course even has a few obstacles designed with the four-legged participant in mind.
Finally, there’s a kids division. The one for those 4 to 6 (who must be accompanied by an adult) has a 200-yard dash with obstacles customized to their age and size; those 7 to 13 face a one-mile course that is a mix of adult and kid-friendly obstacles.
Yes, it’s a fun time, but participating can do some good, too. A portion of each registration fee goes toward Autism Speaks. There are other ways your involvement can benefit Autism Speaks; here are the details.
The 7K obstacle course will be at The Dome at the Ballpark, 34 Jennie Finch Way in Rosemont. If you just want to go out and watch (and consider it for next year), you can do that, too.
Pricing varies. Use the SUNTIMES promo code and get a 25 percent discount when registering. Go here to register.
