If you have trouble sleeping, have you tried redecorating?
We’re not talking about fancy furniture or animal print rugs — after all, your eyes are closed when you sleep — but there are changes you can make to your bedroom to make falling asleep easier.
Here are a few tips from the National Sleep Foundation, a nonprofit group that advocates for health and wellness through sleep:
• Get serious about the dark: Use shades or room darkening curtains to help acclimate your body to sleep.
• Keep your room uncluttered, and paint it colors that soothe you — so no hot pink.
• Try a noise machine or fan to keep background noise minimal and constant — so nothing suddenly gets louder.
• Try scenting your room with subtle lavender, or something you like that isn’t too jarring.
