You can meet the Green City Market’s sibling on Saturday.
The market – which has been called one of the top 10 farmers markets in the country – will open a second location, this one at the corner of Halsted and Fulton Market streets in the parking lot at 222 N. Halsted.
The hope is to develop a full-time, year-round market near the Fulton location. Green City Market Fulton, as it’s being called, also gives farmers another location to sell their wares.
So far, 20 vendors selling organic and sustainable fruits and vegetables as well as other goods are committed to being at opening day.
The market will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through October. (Sorry, no Wednesday hours like the Lincoln Park location.) If you have to drive, there is a public parking lot that charges $6 on the east side of the street (221 N. Halsted).
This has been a busy summer for Green City Market, which has been in operation for 16 years. It debuted its first cookbook last month. That cookbook (read my review here) will be on sale at either of the Green City Market locations or the website.
