Medical researchers are poised to reveal breakthroughs in the areas of brain activity, cancer and vaccines, according to an article in the AARP Bulletin by Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health.

Collins writes about what’s been called “America’s next moon shot”: the BRAIN Initiative (Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies), where researchers will develop ways to reveal how the brain’s cells and complex circuits interact at the speed of thought — leading to how conditions such as depression, stroke, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s are diagnosed and treated.
